What it left behind was a string of amazing memories that would stay a lifetime.
Kaushik and I were escorting the VIP's at the event (world culture festival) along with Ramki Anna and Radha-one of the cutest tam-bhram couples I have ever met. Ramki Anna is, an ardent Apple fan (has enough Apple products to turn his house into a Apple shop) and a biker, and Radha....well she cooks like a dream!
So four of us were placed on different VIP exits, except for Kaushik, who would periodically disappear for long period of time and then reappear suddenly out of nowhere. So the most brilliant part of the job was we got to see the biggest VVIP of all (Guruji of course) whenever he entered and left.
The first day we entered the olympia stadium, it was pouring! but we were confident! weather! huh! Guruji will take care...just like he has many many times in the past. We have had courses in the past of 1000 youths in Bangalore where it poured everywhere but on the open air ground where the course took place. Traffic jams had been cleared, the clouds miraculously parted. So rain was no big deal.
But then the festival began
And it rained
upto 2000 dancers danced
and it rained
there were musical concerts of 1000 guitarists
and it rained.
1000 yogis performed
and it rained brilliantly.
It was cold and chaotic and damp. But the spirit was never dampened. It was fresh, exuberant, blissful and...magical. And then we all transcended all the sound and music to silence, as more than 40,000 people meditated together. As one of the organizers from Olympia stadium later
quoted, "I have never seen so many people in a full stadium in silence!".
I see this over and over again in Art of living. And every time I am wonder struck. How does he do it. Bring all these people from all over the world together (I met my cousins who were in the US, who I had only heard of till then but never met) and feel so connected. Make service and love so effortless. More than a 1000 volunteers who worked for weeks together for the event, with hardly any stress, but only fun and celebration.
How does he do it. Was it with a swish of his hand, with a blink of an eye, snap of his fingers. I have no idea.
More than anything in this would I wish I could tell the world to wake up....wake up and see what its missing!
Its 1 am in the morning. And a few days to Gurupoornima. With a Guru in one's life, even the darkest and gloomiest times are celebration, that is what the world culture festival meant for me. Even with all the rain and bad weather, with the master it was the best celebration.
Most of the celebrations in the world leave you empty, but this celebration is deep, meaningful and healing for the soul.
This friday, is Gurupoornima...the full moon dedicated to the Guru, and an opportunity to express your gratitude.
